Egypt's Sisi stresses to Kuwait FM the necessity of confronting 'policies that support terrorism'
Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received on Monday in Cairo Kuwaiti FM Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, where El-Sisi stressed the necessity of confronting “policies that support terrorism” in the region.
Sheikh Sabah is in Cairo to discuss the diplomatic crisis between Qatar and four Arab nations – Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain – that severed diplomatic ties and transport links with the small Gulf state in early June, accusing Doha of supporting terrorist groups, which Qatar denies.
The meeting was attended by Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and Kuwaiti ambassador to Egypt Mohamed Saleh Thuwaikh.
The Egyptian president stressed during the meeting the importance of the ongoing organisation between Egypt and Kuwait on all issues of mutual interest as well as enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier today, Shoukry told his Kuwaiti counterpart that Egypt will stick to the measures taken against Qatar until the gulf country meets the list of demands issued by the four Arab countries.
Shoukry expressed Cairo's appreciation for the role Kuwait’s Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has played in mediating between the four Arab nations and Qatar.
FM Al-Sabah stressed that the efforts exerted by his country come from its desire to resolve the situation and reach a comprehensive solution to the crisis.
Last month, the four nations issued a list of 13 demands under a two-week deadline, which Qatar did not meet.
The four countries condemned Qatar's response to the demands as “not serious” and “negative,” saying Doha's refusal to meet the demands proves its links to terror groups.
