Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour refuses to be blamed for Monday's loss against arch rivals Ahly, insisting that he offered his full support to the team.
Two goals from Walid Soliman and Junior Ajayi granted champions Ahly a deserved 2-0 win over Zamalek to maintain an unbeaten run in 34 league games.
"Why I am the only one to be blamed for the loss against Ahly?" Mansour told ON Sport TV channel after the match.
"We offered our full support, including financial dues, for both the technical staff and the players. I am not the one who selected the squad and left [key duo] Bassem Morsi and Mostaf Fathi on the bench against Ahly," he said.
"I am not the reason of the loss. When I was interfering in choosing the squad we succeeded in winning both the league and the cup titles, and now look what happens when I am away.
"There are around 15 players who don't deserve to wear Zamalek shirts," the chairman concluded.
Ahly ended the season on 84 points, 10 ahead of second-placed Maqassa. Zamalek secured a CAF Confederation Cup-qualifying third place with 66 points.
