Academy Award winner Louis Gosset Jr is known for his television series role as former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat


The renowned American film and television actor Louis Gosset Jr was announced the guest of the Sharm El-Sheikh Asian and African Film Festival for Arts and Tourism in its first edition, which opens 14 September.

Gossett is best known in Egypt for his role as former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in the 1983 American mini series titled Sadat. The performance earned him anEmmy Award nomination and aGolden Globe Award.

His acting career spans five decades, appearing in over 150 works in television and cinema.

The 1982 film, An Officer and a Gentleman, earned him an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

He won 14 other awards, and was nominated for 22 others.

Some of his best known film roles include Gunnery SergeantEmil Foley in the filmAn Officer and a Gentleman (1982), his role as Fiddler in the mini seriesRoots (1977), and The Punisher (1989).

In television, in addition to acting, he directed a film in 1999 titled Love Songs, and an episode of The Powers of Matthew Stars series, and was the executive producer of over 10 other works.

The festival is headed by renowned Egyptian actress Soheir El-Morshedy and is organised by the the Afro-Asian Peoples' Solidarity Organisation (AAPSO) headed by Helmy El-Hadidiy.

According to a report in Al-Ahram Arabic, El-Hadidy noted Gossett as an early speaker against racism in American cinema.

Reportedly the actor has sent a video to the festival in which he expressed his excitement to participate in the festival, wearing a shirt with the words “No to Racism” written on it.
