Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday that a recently signed memorandum of understanding between Egypt and Germany on irregular migration will focus on targeting the "root of the problem."

The agreement will focus on providing job opportunities for the youth, with Germany to provide 28 million euros for education and technical training in Egypt.

Egypt has agreed to provide opportunities for the German private sector in the Egyptian market, especially in SMEs.

Germany will also increase grants and visas for Egyptian students and businessmen.

The agreement also states that Germany would forgive some of Egypt's debt to the European country in return for Egypt adopting programmes to improve technical education in the country.

The agreement also says that Egypt will make an effort to "re-integrate" Egyptian migrants who illegally migrated to Germany and choose to return to Egypt voluntarily.

Germany has agreed to provide support for improving infrastructure where refugees live in Egypt, as the country has no refugee camps within its borders.

Germany will also provide financial support to help Egypt secure its borders and fight irregular migration and human trafficking.

Egypt's north coast is often a departure point for migrants heading for Europe.
