The upcoming 24th Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theatre (CIFCET)will run between 19 and 29 September at 12 different theatres across Cairo and Giza.

The festival will bring 12 international shows, showcase seven local ones, and will honor five figures, according to a statement from festival director Dina Amin.

The opening will be held at the main hall of Cairo Opera House, with the performance of The Three Sisters, from Georgia.

The international shows are from nine different countries, including Kenya, Belguim, Sweden, China, Mexico and Chile, three shows from United States, and Armenia.

The Egyptian plays include two that have won at the National Theatre Festival; Yom An Qatalo Al-Gehenaa (The Day They Killed Singing) and El-Gesr (The Bridge).

The other five local plays include The Forty Rules of Love directed by Mohamed Fouad, El-Tagroba (The Experiment) directed by Ahmed Ezzat, Shaman directed by Said Soliman, El-Safeer (The Ambassador) by Ahmed El-Salamony, and Nesaa Bela Ghad (Women with No Tomorrow) by Nour Ghanem.

The festival will close at the Gomhouriya Theatre, with the Egyptian performance The Experiment by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Theatre troupe, directed by Ahmed Ezzat.
