West Bromwich keeper Ben Foster has heaped praise on his Egyptian teammate Ahmed Hegazi, describing his performance with the club “amazing.”

The Egyptian defender joined the Baggies from Ahly this summer on a one season loan deal with an option to make it permanent at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old produced many fine displays with the Baggies, scoring one goal in six Premier League appearances.

"He's done amazing," Foster told English newspaper Express & Star on Thursday.

"Nobody really knew too much about him when he came, but from his first game he took to it so easy, he looked so comfy.”

“To slot into the team in the Premier League as a big centre-back like he is, you think he might be limited with this and that, but he's got most of the attributes needed. He's just slotted in so quickly.”

Foster defended Hegazi for his fault against Stoke City that allowed Peter Crouch to score the equaliser in the 1-1 draw in the Premier League earlier this month.

“I've come out and shouted for a ball, you've got 25,000 fans there, sometimes you're not going to hear it," he added.

"He's a very committed player, if he sees a ball he's going to go for it regardless, he probably saw me in the corner of his eye in the last minute and flinched at it or pulled the clearance.

"It's just one of those things, he's a good guy, he talks a lot on the pitch as well and it’s something he's gotten over quickly.”

Hegazi was named in Hector Cuper’s list for the Pharaohs’ anticipated clash against Congo in the World Cup qualifiers set to be played in Alexandria on the eighth of next month.
