A Heliopolis misdemeanor court has sentenced TV host Doaa Salah to three years in prison for inciting debauchery on her TV show.

The court also ruled that Salah is to pay EGP 10,000 in compensation to lawyer Ashraf Nagy, who filed the lawsuit against her.

Nagy accused Salah of spreading debauchery when she discussed in a July episode of her TV show ‘With Dody,’ which aired on the privately-owned Al-Nahar TV channel, the issue of women's choice to become single mothers.

After the episode aired, Salah’s show was suspended for three months by the media union for what it described as "immoral ideas that are alien to our society and threaten the fabric of the Egyptian family."

This is a first degree court ruling that can be appealed.
