Egypt's Salah nominated for BBC African Footballer of the Year award

Liverpool and Egypt star Mohamed Salah has been included in a five-man shortlist for the BBC African Footballer of the Year award, alongside club teammate Sadio Mane and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

After leading Egypt to the World Cup finals for the first time in 28 years, Salah has been shortlisted for the prize.Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses and Leipzig's Guinean midfielder Naby Keita are also nominated.

Salah, who led the Pharaohs to the African Cup of Nations final before they finished runners up to Cameroon, racked up seven goals in his first 11 Premier League games this season, plus another five in six UEFA Champions League matches.

Gabon striker Aubameyang scored a total of 40 goals for Dortmund in all competitions, whereas Liverpool's pacey winger Mane led Senegal to the World Cup for the first time since 2002.

Egypt's former stars Mohamed Barakat and Mohamed Abou-Treika, who both played for Cairo giants Ahly, won the award in 2005 and 2008 respectively.
