Artists to join Friday's rally to honour the martyrs of last month's Mohamed Mahmoud Street clashes

Egyptian popular music group Eskenderella and its politically active member Samia Jaheen are among many artists to have called for a rally on Friday, 2 December in Tahrir Square under the slogan 'A Tribute to Heroes of Mohamed Mahmoud Street'.

Artists from various political movements have encouraged Egyptians to return to Tahrir and pay tribute to the heroes of the Mohamed Mahmoud Street clashes that left 41 dead and over one thousand injured from 19-25 November, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health.

Samia Jaheen said the rally would include funerals for the martyrs of those clashes and a protest calling for the prosecution of those involved from the Ministry of Interior and military police.

Accepting the invitation was Egyptian artist Nasef Azmi and his kite making workshop. The acclaimed artist will hold a workshop for enthusiasts at noon. Each kite created will have the name of a martyr of the Mohamed Mahmoud clashes and will be flown above Tahrir Square.

At night, several artists, including Jaheen, will perform popular songs from Egypt’s revolution in support of the demand that the military council immediately transfer power to a civilian authority and those responsible for the deadly clashes on Mohamed Mahmoud Street be put on trial.
