Egypt's army chief of staff General Mohamed Farid discussed Egyptian-UAE military cooperation with his Emirati counterpart Hamad Mohammed Al Rumaithi in Cairo on Thursday, the Egyptian military said in a statement on Thursday.

Al Rumaithi is currently visiting the Egyptian capital with an Emirati delegation.

The two officers discussed recent developments in the region as well as means to bolster cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.

They also looked at measures to coordinate efforts in the face of current challenges in the Middle East, mainly the war against terrorism, the statement added.

The United Arab Emirates is one of strongest allies of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, and like Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has provided his government with billions of dollars in aid to stimulate the country's ailing economy.

El-Sisi visited Abu Dhabi in September where he discussed joint counterterrorism efforts and bilateral relations with the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
