Activists call for solidarity with blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah, to pressure for his release before the birth of his soon expected and first son

Activists and No to Military Trials Campaign members are calling for a protest in solidarity with blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah. The protest is expected to take place on Sunday in front of the General Prosecutor's Office at 6:30pm.

Abdel Fattah's appeal is due tomorrow. Activists are calling on people to help free Alaa before the birth of his first and soon expected son.

Abdel Fattah was initially accused by the military prosecution of stealing military arms, attacking military personnel, destroying military property and inciting violence against military personnel during the Maspero clashes 9 October.

A number of activists and protesters died that night, some run over by military vehicles. Abdel Fattah's case was later referred to a State Security Emergency Court after the military court referred the Maspero clashes case, in which Abdel Fattah is accused, to civil court.

Abdel Fattah, who had refused to talk to military prosecutors on the grounds that he is a civilian, answered the state prosecutor, denying all charges.
