An Egyptian appeals court upheld on Wednesday a three-month prison sentence against prominent actor Amr Waked for damaging a car parked outside his Cairo home.

The actor, who was not present at court when the verdict was issued, has the right to file one more objection to the sentence if he appears in person in court.

Waked, 45, was handed the original sentence in October and was released on EGP 1,000 (approximately $60) bail pending appeal.

The actor has denied the charges against him, maintaining that they were trumped up by a doorman with whom he is on bad terms.

Waked, a celebrated movie and TV star in Egypt, has also played roles in a number of international hits including Steven Spielberg's film Munich, Syriana with George Clooney, and more recently the Hollywood thriller Lucy alongside Scarlet Johansson and Morgan Freeman and as well as the sci-fi thriller Geostorm.
