The top Egyptian appeals court upheld on Thursday death sentences against three members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood for killing the son of a judge in 2014.

In 2016, a criminal court in the Nile Delta city of Mansoura sentenced to death five men, two of which were in absentia, for killing the victim outside his home in September 2014.

The defendants were convicted on charges including premeditated murder, belonging to an outlawed group and disrupting public order.

The victim, the 26-year-old son of judge Mahmoud El-Sayed El-Merly, was shot dead while he was on his way to work in the Nile Delta city of Mansoura.

Mahmoud El-Sayed is a senior judge in the Cairo appeals court who presided over a number of high-profile cases of political figures over the past six years.
