Opening on 9 January, Revival exhibition at Arcade Gallery will display works by late Alexandrian artist Nour Al-Youssef Salah Al-Din who died in 2000.

The paintings are from the collection of Alexandrian art collector Fattouh El-Kabea, and will be made available for sale.

Born in 1928, Nour Al-Youssef worked as a marine captain, and studied art with his friend Seif Wanli in the studio of Italian artist Otorino Becchi.

According to Arcade gallery’s biography for the artist, Al-Youssef held many private and group exhibitions internationally on his numerous travels around the world, yet he only held two or three exhibitions in Egypt during his lifetime.

Through his work as a marine captain he met many important international artists such as the Spanish artist Miro, the French artist Marcel Duchamp and the British artist Francis Bacon, with whom he had a strong friendship and became influenced by his use of color.

The artist had kept all his work except for some paintings which he gifted to his foreign artist friends, and Egyptian writer friends such as Youssef Idris and Anis Mansour.
