Visions of South, a solo exhibition by Mervat Shazly Helaly, will open at Picasso Art Gallery in Cairo
Egyptian artist Mervat Shazly Helaly will open her new solo exhibition Visions of South at Cairo's Picasso Art Gallery on Sunday 14 January.
This is not the first time that Helaly has been interested in the South of Egypt. Her journey with the region had already begun when she focused on Nubian culture in her master's thesis, titled "The impact of the Nubian environment on Egyptian artists" (1998).
Her doctoral dissertation was entitled "Egyptian Contemporary art, 1970-2000, between tradition and modernization" (2009).
Helaly has held numerous solo exhibition or participated in group exhibitions both in Egypt and internationally. Her works were displayed in South Africa (2010), during the Egyptian Art Exhibition in Paris (2012) and Sheikha Suad Al-Sabah Biennale (Kuwait, 2017) where she received one of the biennale's major awards.

The exhibiton opens on Sunday 14 January at 7pm and continues until 1 February
