Arab League's Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi will visit Doha to attend the Arab ministerial committee meeting to discuss the Syrian crisis amid Al-Assad's regime intransigence to approve the Organization's plan
An Arab League delegation, headed by secretary general Nabil al-Arabi, will visit the Qatari capital Doha to attend the Arab ministerial committee meeting. The journey follows a two-day visit to Iraq, where Al-Arabi met with a number of prominent Iraqi officials to discuss issues of mutual concern, especially the Syrian crisis and preparations for the next Arab summit, which will be held next March in Baghdad.
In Doha the committee will examine the terms and conditions specified by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in order to approve a League-brokered plan for resolving domestic conflict in Syria, Al-Arabia news channel revealed on Friday.
Prior to his arrival to Baghdad, al-Arabi announced that he had sent a letter to the Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, emphasising that the economic sanctions imposed on Syria would be "temporary". He added that the sanctions will be lifted once the regime signs the Arab League protocol for sending inspectors into Syria to monitor the turmoil. However, Muallem stated that the Arab League has to take the initiative and lift the sanctions first as a sign of good will.
