On Friday 2 March the Horus Ensemble will perform music on period instruments at the Cairo Opera House.
Dubbed Gems of the Classical Age (Gemme dell'Epoca Classica), the concert will include works byFranz Danzi (1763-1826), Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) and Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868).
The Horus Ensemble was founded in 2002 by violinist Basma Abdel-Rahim and her husband cellist Kamel Salah Eldin, both Egyptian musicians based in Frankfurt, Germany.
Named after the Ancient Egyptian god Horus, the ensemble consists of musicians who either perform on period instruments or are historically informed musicians:Basma Abdel-Rahim (violin), Ludwig Hampe (viola), Kamel Salah Eldin (cello), Alfredo Bernardini (oboe) and Alberto Grazzi (bassoon). All are members of the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra.
