The Super Eagles have officially called up the 22-year-old for a World Cup preparation camp
Ahly forward Junior Ajayi expressed his ambitions of playing with his Nigerian national team at the World Cup, after receiving his first call-up to the seniors this week.
"I am very happy with national team call-up. I dream day after day of representing my country at the 2018 World Cup in Russia to write my own international history," Ahayi told his Egyptian club's official website on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles called up the 22-year-old Ajayi for a World Cup training camp in which they will face Poland and Serbia on 23 and 27 March in London.
"Playing for Nigeria is not easy at all. It requires bigger effort and focus and I will do my best in the upcoming camp," he added.
The Nigerian thanked all Ahly teammates and fans for support and good wishes after his call-up.
Ajayi caught the attention of Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr after starring with Ahly, winning last season's Egyptian Premier League, Cup, Super Cup and helping the team finish as runners-up in the African Champions League.
Since he joined the Cairo-based club in the summer of 2016 from Tunisian side CS Sfaxien on a four-year contract, Ajayi has scored 20 goals in 64 appearances with Ahly.
Nigeria are in Group D of the World Cup, which takes place in Russia in June, competing with Argentina, Iceland and Croatia.
