EgyptAir will offer a 50 percent discount on business class seats on its upcoming flight from Cairo to Moscow, the first since 2015, the air carrier announced on Thursday.
EgyptAir CEO Sherif Ezzatsaid there would also be a 35percentdiscount on economy seats on the flight, which is scheduled for 12 April.
Passengers will be able to book the tickets with the discount until 29 March; the discounts will be available for the 12 April flight from Cairo to Moscow, and for EgyptAir flights from Moscow to Cairo scheduled from 12 April to 12 June.
EgyptAir is launching thrice-weekly flights to Moscow; they will be scheduled for Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The announcement comes after Russia’s biggest airline Aeroflot said earlier this month that it would resume commercial flights to Cairo on 11 April for the first time in over two years.
In October 2015, a Russian passenger jet crashed in Sinai, killing all onboard, and as a result allEgyptian-Russian flights were suspendedby Moscow.
The flight suspension has taken a toll on Egypt’s tourism industry, which had previously hosted large numbers of Russian visitors.
Since the crash, Egypt has implementedtighter security measures in its airports to meet Russian concerns.
Another round of negotiations between Moscow and Cairo are set to take place in April to discuss resuming Russian flights to Egypt’s tourist destinations along the Red Sea.
