Egypt's armed forces offered its official congratulations to Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on the occasion of his re-election as the country's leader till 2022.
In an official statement, Egypt's armed forces spokesman Tamer El-Refaie said "the armed forces' leaders, officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers come forward with their congratulations to Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the president and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, for the precious trust given to him by the great people of Egypt in his reelection as president of the republic."
El-Refaie asserted the armed forces' continued supportive stance behind El-Sisi's "wise leadership to ensure the country's safety and stability," as well as its support for continued development to put Egypt back on the path towards being a leading nation.
President El-Sisi held several positions in the armed forces, the latest being defense minister in 2012 after an appointment by Islamist then-President Mohamed Morsi.
After Morsi's ousting in 2013 following mass protests, El-Sisi resigned in March 2014 from his post and ran for the presidency, winning the election against his Nasserist opponent Hamdeen Sabahi.
His tenure was renewed officially on Monday after he was declared president for a second term till 2022 upon securing 97.07 percent of valid votes, winning against sole competitor Moussa Moustafa Moussa in an expected sweeping win.
El-Sisi is due to be sworn in at the House of Representatives in Cairo in June, as per constitutional guidelines, according to Egypt's parliamentary spokeperson Ali Abdel-Aal.
