A new campaign to highlight the forgotten gems of Egyptian cultural heritage is being launched to coincide with World Heritage Day this week, with an official launch event taking place at Misr Public Library in Giza on 18 April.

The "Tell the World" campaign is part of the Explore Egypt Project, and is being organized in collaboration with several Egyptian media outlets: Cairo360, Al-Ahram Civilization, and the Welad Elbalad folk section.

The idea behind the project is to reintroduce forgotten heritage to the public, bringing it into the limelight through journalistic reports, documentaries and cultural walks.

The initiative will highlight 10 heritage sites in Egypt that have been largely forgotten, starting with the Tomb of Sheikh Ezz Ibn Abdel Salam, the supreme judge and imam of Amr Ibn El-Ass mosque. He played a key role in combating attacks on the region by Tartars and Christian Crusaders. The program includes a documentary featuring his tomb and his life.
