Ahram Online, , Monday 30 Apr 2018
The exhibition includes artwork by Shannon Brinkley and Solange Roberdeau

Artworks by Solange Roberdeau and Shannon Brinkley will be displayed in an exhibition titled Impressions that opens on 5 May.

According to the statement from Arcade gallery, Roberdeau and Brinkley both visited Fayoum in February and during their stay during their stay at the Fayoum Winter Residency reflected on the concept of an impression; a feeling, an inkling or an opinion of something formed quickly, if almost by intuition.

The exhibition will showcase drawings on wood and paper, where “each artist considers her relationship to this concept and asks the question of how she might capture something inherently temporal and translate it through drawing,” as the exhibition statement reads.

Brinkley presents a series of watercolour drawings that relate to her experience of blood-sugar levels, and thinks of it as a way to reflect landscapes within the body.

For her series, Roberdeau looks into the relationship of pottery craftsmen with their land, and in general a human process that is tied to the environment where it takes place.

She holds a a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Master of Arts in Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she is also currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree.
