Egypt condemned on Sunday a terrorist attack that killed at least 31 people in Nigeria, expressing its condolences to the families of the victims.

Egypt's foreign ministry released a statement where it stressed the support of the government and people of Egypt to Nigeria in facing terrorism, and called for concerted efforts to combat the phenomenon.

The statement comes one day after two suicide bombers attacked the northeastern town of Damboa in Borno state. The blasts were followed by rocket fire on the town.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, although the terrorist group Boko Haram is suspected of being behind the attack.

At the start of May, a military operation was launched to expel Boko Haram terrorists from northern Borno and the Lake Chad region.
