Britain's Johnson: chemical weapons watchdog should be given new powers
Reuters, , Tuesday 26 Jun 2018

Britain's Foreign Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday called for all nations to support his country's proposal to give the world's chemical weapons watchdog the power to assign blame for attacks.

Speaking at the Organization for the Prohibition for Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Johnson said the world could not allow the ban on chemical weapons to be "eroded away."

All European Union members and the United States said they would support giving the OPCW new powers, while Russia argued doing so would undermine the power of the United Nations' Security Council.
