Egypt’s Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik inspected on Saturday a number of security checkpoints in Cairo and Giza during the fifth anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, which ousted Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsi.

In a statement by the interior ministry, Tawfik stressed that the security of Egyptian citizens is his top priority and that police personnel sacrifice their lives for citizens' safety.

“We and the Egyptian people and the Armed Forces are one hand, and we will remain one hand,” Tawfik said.

During the security tour, the minister visited Hisham Barakat Square, previously known as Rabaa El-Adaweya, where a major sit-in was held by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood following Morsi's ouster in 2013.

"We will not tolerate anyone who would use weapons in the face of our Egyptian people," the minister said.
