Police officer Mohamed Sobhy El-Shennawy, accused to deliberately shooting protesters in the eyes, will be held in detention for another 15 days

The detention of police officer Mohamed Sobhy El-Shennawy, accused of deliberately shooting protesters in the eyes, has been extended for another 15 days pending investigations.

El-Shennawy was arrested after an online video was widely circulated showing him shooting at demonstrators close to Tahrir Square during the notorious Mohamed Mahmoud Street clashes last month, as soldiers from the Central Security Forces (CSF) cheered him on.

The infamous police officer, named by protesters "the sniper of the eyes”, denied the accusation during questioning, saying he did not use, nor have, any live ammunition while facing protesters last month.

Yesterday, four police officers and one non-commissioned police officer accused of killing protesters in Sayeda Zeinab were acquitted by the Cairo Criminal Court.
