Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in Beijing, China on Sunday morning where he will hold talks with top Chinese officials and participate in Tuesday’s ministerial meeting for the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF).

According to Egypt's state-owned MENA news agency, Shoukry will meet with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, and will sit for interviews with several Chinese TV channels.

Egypt’s foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid has said that Shoukry’s visit will involve talks on bilateral relations with Chinese officials, as well as a meeting with China’s Vice President Wang Qishan.

Abu Zeid said that Shoukry will participate on Tuesday in the ministerial meeting for the Arab-Chinese forum, which he said will discuss activating and supporting Arab-Chinese relations in various fields, especially in the economic field.

Shoukry will also meet with a number of Arab counterparts participating in the forum.

Regional issues of mutual interest will also be discussed in the forum, which was established in 2004 by then-Chinese President Hu Jintao with the 22 member states of the Arab League during his visit to the regional organisation’s headquarters in Cairo.

The Arab-Chinese joint declaration aims to build political, international, economic, and cultural relations as well as establish several mechanisms of cooperation within the forum.
