Preview: Zamalek aim to catch up with Ahly, Pyramids on top

Zamalek will be looking to catch up with joint leaders Ahly and Pyramids FC when they meet promoted Nogoum FC on Monday as they seek to maintain their fine start to the Egyptian Premier League.

The White Knights, who are eyeing their first league crown since 2015, collected seven points from their opening three games, with new coach Christian Gross implementing a firm attacking strategy.

But in what analysts expect would be a three-horse race for the title, Ahly and big-spending Pyramids garnered 10 points from four matches, leaving Zamalek with no option but to overcome Nogoum to remain in touch with the early pacesetters.

Zamalek produced some vivid attacking displays under Swiss Gross but their defence looked largely vulnerable to any counter-attacks, although they only conceded one goal in three matches.

But they are highly likely to beat Nogoum, who are making their top-flight debut and could only bag two points from their first three games.

Zamalek have no injury worries before the game but playmaker Ayman Hefni, one of the stars of the 2015 league winning side, and winger Mostafa Fathi remain out of favour.
