Egypt's FA to meet in response to accusatory email by Liverpool's Mo Salah

Egyptian Football Association (EFA) board members announced that they will hold a meeting on Monday to respond to the letter they received from the agent of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, a few hours after the English Premier League star said in a tweet that they had ignored his messages.

"During this meeting, we will discuss the letter which was sent by the lawyer of player Mohamed Salah on 23 August," read a statement released by the EFA early on Monday.

The EFA said in their statement that Salah sent a letter to the association president's email on 11 August and that they replied to the letter from Liverpool's winger on 16 August asking him to send any message to the Egyptian Football Association’s formal email address or via fax.

The EFA also confirmed that they informed Salah's agent that there will be a managerial meeting after the Eid al-Adha vacation to discuss the player's requests and to formulate their reply.

"The EFA will hold a press conference after the meeting to respond to any media questions," the statement added.

Late on Sunday, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah took a fresh swipe at the EFA, saying it had ignored his requests for guarantees that a previous row over image rights would not be repeated.

Salah said calls from him and his lawyer went unanswered, sarcastically wondering if the EFA did not have enough time to respond to him.

Salah, the UEFA men’s player of the year contender, did not disclose further details, but his agent Ramy Abbas confirmed in a tweet later that the matter is related to a dispute that occurred before the summer World Cup in Russia when he complained that the EFA had exploited Salah's image rights.

The former AS Roma man is an icon in football-mad Egypt. He made a stunning impact at Liverpool last term, racking up 44 goals throughout all competitions, including a record 32 in the Premier League.

Speculation linked him with a summer move to a host of clubs, including Spanish giants and European champions Real Madrid, but he opted to stay put, penning a new five-year contract with Liverpool last month.

Salah picked up from where he left off last season, netting two goals in Liverpool's opening three Premier League games. His first-half goal earned the Reds a 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday.
