Morocco coach Renard snubs Juventus' Benatia for Malawi clash
Ahram online, Tuesday 28 Aug 2018

Morocco's coach Herve Renerad announced his starting formation for the anticipated clash against Malawi in the Nations Cup qualifiers that saw the absence of the team's skipper Mehdi Benatia.

The Frenchman has not explained why he dropped the Juventus defender from the formation, but reports suggested that the veteran defender criticized Renerad’s coaching strategy during the World Cup, where the Moroccan national team was eliminated in the group stage.

Benatia, who started his international career in November 2008, has 58 caps and two goals.

Renerad continued to snub Ahly's striker Walid Azaro, who has produced some fine displays with the Red Devils in the Egyptian league.

The coach called-up Azaro last March for the first time, but he snubbed him when he announced the squad that participated in the World Cup.

Morocco will face Malawi on September 8th at home as they eye to return to their winning ways after their 1-0 loss to the African Champions Cameroon in the group opener.

Morocco feature in group B with Cameroon, Malawi and Madagascar.
