Cairo's 25th Experimental Theatre Festival closes with honors of longtime supporters

The festival ran between 10 and 21 September in several Cairo Theatres


The 25th edition of the Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theatre closed last Friday at the Cairo Opera House, after running for 10 days in Cairo's theatres.

In the presence of culture minister Ines Abdeldayem and festival president Sameh Mahran, the closing ceremony honoured several key figures that have helped shape the festival since its start, on the occasion of its silver jubilee.

Those honored include 12 Arab and Egyptian figures: Syrian actor Asaad Feddah, Iraqi director Jawad Al-Asdy, Jordanian director Hatem El-Sayed, Iraqi artist Sami Amdelhamid, Bahraini artist Abdallah El-Saadawy, Kuwaiti artist Abdelaziz El-Sarea, Tunisian writer and researcher Ezz El-Din El-Madany, Moroccan writer Abdelkarim Barshid, Egyptian director and actor Fahmy El-Khouly, Algerian artist Mohamed Adar, Egyptian writer Mohamed Salmawy, and Egyptian professor Hoda Wasfy, former director of the National Theatre.

The closing night also included a short performance directed by Khaled Galal, and a short documentary on the festival and its highlights.
