Eslam Omar, , Monday 1 Oct 2018

Egyptian band El-Dor El-Awal will perform a concert on Thursday at Darb 1718, which will feature some of their most-popular songs, including Raqs El-Hawanem, Rehla, and Hawdag.

Founded in 1999, El-Dor El-Awal (The First Floor) is known for its unique sound that combines its musicians' wide background with a traditional oriental melody.

The band includes popular percussionists Bob and Mizo, tight electric bassist Ahmed Omar; Fady Badr on qanun and keyboards; Mohammad Samy on the violin; Nour Ashour on the mizmar and saxophone; and Hisham Issam on oud.

The Thursday lineup will be missing accordionist Wael El-Sayed, who is currently touring in the United Sates with Dina El-Wedidi's band.

Due to members' busy engagement schedule inside and outside of Egypt, El-Dor El-Awal do not perform on a regular basis, but the group have recently started to appear more regularly at varied cultural venues in Egypt beyond local music bars.

El-Dor El-Awal's first album, Qarar Izala (Decision to Demolish) was released in 2006, while their second, Aa'tareeq (On the Road), came out in 2009.

Programme:
