Laima Kreivytė's project is part of an exchange programme between MASS Alex and Vilnius Art Academy


Soma Gallery will host the exhibition of Lithuanian artist Laima Kreivytė titled ‘Waiting,’ which opens on 28 November and runs for three days.

Kreivytė presents performance, sculpture and video works in her project.

‘Waiting’ is based on site-specific research and reflects on liminal spaces, while engaging with the modernist architecture of Soma Gallery.

The exhibition is a two-part project that takes place within the framework of an exchange programme between Lithuania's Nida Art Colony (NAC) at the Vilnius Art Academy, and Egypt's MASS Alexandria Residency. Part one of ‘Waiting’ corresponds with the Cavafy House in Alexandria.

Born in 1972, Kreivytė (b. 1972) is an artist, poet and curator interested in the interaction of text and image.

She curates poetic performances and participates in Coolturistes artist group exhibitions.

Kreivytė is the author of the poetry book ‘Sappho’s Purgatorial Library’ (Sapfo skai[s]tykla) and compiled books about the artist Marija Teresė Rožanskaitė and the painter Kęstutis Zapkus.

She also translated the poetry of Adrienne Rich, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath and Elizabeth Bishop.

The exhibition opens on 28 November at 6pm and runs till 30 November.
