, Thursday 6 Dec 2018

Unstable weather is expected to continue in several parts of Egypt on Friday as a stint of cold and rain is forecast to reach its peak on Thursday, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) said.

Rains on Wednesday battered large swathes of Cairo. More rains, stronger winds and lower temperatures are expected in several parts of the country on Thursday including Cairo, the Nile Delta, northern Upper Egypt and Sinai, EMA head Ahmed Abdel-Al said.

The wintry conditions were likely to take a firm hold into Friday and will start to improve starting Saturday, when rainfall is expected only in some Nile Delta cities and areas along the Mediterranean Sea, he added.

Friday is expected to see highs of 20 degrees Celsius and lows of 15 in the capital Cairo. The Mediterranean city of Alexandria and other North Coast areas will likely see the same highs and lows of around 12.

The northern part of Upper Egypt is forecast to see the coldest temperatures around the country over the coming two days, hitting lows of 9 degrees.

Heading into the winter, temperatures have been colder than usual in Egypt over the past few days. The winter season officially starts on 21 December.
