The two-day event scheduled to take place at Cairo's Zawya will bring together creative professionals from Egypt’s design and film scenes

The first edition of the annual event Film My Design (FMD) will take place 15-16 February 2019 at Cairo's Zawya Cinema.

According to the organiser's official press release, the FMD "aims to establish a creative community of Egyptian designers and filmmakers, who collaborate to produce design film documentaries.

The filmmaker documents the design process of the designer as the latter works their way through concept and production. FMD’s main objective is to cross-pollinate design with the art of filmography, creating a uniquely innovative way of expanding society’s exposure to the local design community."

Additionally, FMD will start building an archive of design film documentaries, to capture the evolution and development of both creative fields in Egypt.

During the two-day event, the event will host screenings of four international and five locally produced design-film documentaries, talks and panel discussions that revolve around design and film.

The organisers hope to create a dialogue and promote cross-cultural exchange between creative minds in Egypt and those from across the globe.

In its first edition, FMD will partner with the Milano Design Film Festival (MDFF) and will screen some of their most exclusive international design films.

Participants in the event include filmmakers such as Mohamed Magdy, Abdallah Abed, Muhammad Taymour, and duoKhoshoua El-Gohary and Marwan Salamaa.

Designers include the duo Nayera Magdy and Noha Khaled from Blue ++ Studio, Mahmoud Riad from Riad Architecture, the trio Ibtisam, Ahmed and Mohamed from Encode Studio, as well as designers from Agineering, and Sam Product Design.

The detailed programme of the Film My Design event is yet to be announced.
