Egypt's Masry exit Confederation Cup after 0-0 draw in Ouagadougou
Ahram Online , Saturday 22 Dec 2018

The woes of Egyptian side Masry increased on Saturday after they exited the African Confederation Cup at the first hurdle, with a 0-0 draw at Burkina Faso's Salitas knocking them out of the competition.

After slumping to a stunning 2-0 first-leg loss in Port Said, Masry needed to show more urgency to remain in the competition in which they reached the semi-final last season.

However, they were bereft of ideas and struggled for clear-cut chances against a resolute Salitas side, who deservedly reached the third round of Africa's secondary club competition.

Masry have been on a downward slide since their coach Hossam Hassan, Egypt's all-time leading scorer, left them to take over at big-spending Pyramids FC in October.

A string of poor results also saw them slip to 12th in the Egyptian Premier League.

They have recently appointed former Zamalek boss Ihab Galal as their new coach, replacing Mostafa Younes who took over following the sudden departure of Hossam Hassan.
