Colder winter weather and rainfall is expected in several parts across Egypt over the next four days, with temperatures expected to drop by an average 3-4 degrees Celsius, meteorologists say.

Rain is forecast in the capital Cairo, cities on the Mediterranean, some parts of the Nile Delta region, the Suez Canal cities and northern and central Sinai on Wednesday and Thursday, head of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority Ahmed Abdel Al said in a statement. Some of these areas will see heavy rain and thunder, he added.

Temperatures are expected to drop by an average 3-4 degrees Celsius starting Thursday and the wet weather will continue on Friday and Saturday on the Delta and the coast.

Cairo and the Mediterranean city of Alexandria are expected to see highs of 20 C and lows of 13 C on Wednesday. Highs are predicted to drop to 17-18 in both cities on Thursday while lows will remain the same.

The popular Red Sea resort cities of Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh will be slightly warmer on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs of 24 and 22 degrees respectively and lows of 16.

The northern part of Upper Egypt -- which includes the governorates of Minya, Fayoum and Beni Suef -- will be the coldest on Wednesday and Thursday, with lows predicted to hit 9 degrees.
