Egypt seeks to intensify coordination with Tunisia over issues of common interest in Africa in the coming period, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi told Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui during a meeting in Cairo on Saturday.

In an official statement, El-Sisi’s spokesman Bassam Rady said El-Sisi expressed to Jhinaoui Egypt’s wish for more coordination with Tunisia, especially in issues related to the development and maintenance of security and stability in Africa.

He expressed Egypt’s keenness on a continued boost in the common African process during Egypt’s chairmanship of the African Union this year.

Jhinaoui delivered a message from Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi to El-Sisi where he invited the Egyptian president to participate in the upcoming Arab Summit in Tunisia in March.

The meeting also discussions on bilateral issues, including boosting cooperation framework between the two countries in various fields, and the security coordination and exchange of information in counter-terrorism.

Libya was also on the table of discussion, where both El-Sisi and Jhinaoui praised the tripartite mechanism between the foreign ministers of Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria in coordinating stances towards the Libyan crisis.
