Pyramids FC stunned by Gouna in Egyptian League

Pyramids FC slumped to their second defeat this season after losing to Gouna 2-1 on Tuesday, a surprise defeat which all but ends their hopes to challenge for the title.

Both sides played with ten men as Croatian referee showed sent off Pyramids defender Ali Gabr and Gouna fullback Ahmed Ali on 57 and 66 minutes respectively.

Ahmed Rayan gave Gouna the lead five minutes after the break with a fine shot from inside the area after a low cross caused mayhem in the area.

Seven minutes later, Ali Gabr received a straight red card for bringing down veteran forward Mohamed 'Gedo' Nagui when he was going clear on goal.

Gedo's weak spot-kick was saved by keeper Ahmed El-Shennawi but Gouna made amends shortly after, Elam Abdel-Naem doubling their lead on the hour-mark with a composed finish after breaking clear.

Pyramids' playmaker Abdallah El-Said narrowed the gap ten minutes from time with a superb curling shot which nestled into the corner of the net but Gouna held on a famous win.

Pyramids are now second in the league table with 45 points from 23 matches, six behind Zamalek who still have three matches in hand and three points ahead of third-placed Ahly, who played 19 matches.
