The Sudanese striker gave his team a lifeline in this tournament after scoring twice to salvage a 2-2 draw against Angola. Bashir rose above the defence and sent a glancing header at the far post to cancel outManucho’s early lead. That was Sudan’s first goal in the finals since Ali Gagarine’s strike against Zaire in 1976. Falling behind again by a second-half penalty from Manucho, the Sudan number 19 came to his side's rescue when he volleyed home from inside the six-yard boxafter Jose Vinguidica failed to clear the danger.
