Egyptian film A Day for Women will screen in Canada at the Cinema Club of SPEC - Du Haut Richelieu in the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on Wednesday.

The award-winning film, directed by Kamla Abu Zekri, will be screened twice consecutively on the same day..

It is set in a working-class Cairo neighbourhood whose youth centre establishes a women-only pool day. The story traces the social and psychological repercussions of this decision on the neighbourhood.

The film features many Egyptian film stars, including Nelly Karim, Nahed El-Sebaei, Mahmoud Hemeda, Farouk El-Fishawy, Ahmed El-Fishawy, Ahmed Daoud, Eyad Nasser and Hala Sedky.

The film is produced by Egyptian actress Ilham Shahin, who also stars in the film, and is scripted by Hanaa Attia.

The film premiered internationally at the 60th London Film Festival, and had its Arab world premiere at the 38th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), before it screened at the 13th Dubai International Film Festival, and other festivals worldwide.

It has won seven awards locally and internationally, including best actor for Nahed El-Sebaei at CIFF, the audience award at the Rotterdam Film Festival and best script at Soleymaneya Festival in Iraq.
