Veteran Ahly defender Ramy Rabia and the young midfielder Karim "Nedved" Walid have said that the Red Devils are ready for the game against Sundowns in South Africa in the first leg of the quarterfinal of the CAF Champions League on Saturday.

"We deal with Saturday's game as the first halftime of the two leg-games so we will do our best to achieve our target," Rabia was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"We arrived in South Africa to achieve a positive result against Sundowns, to ease our mission in the second leg in Cairo," the Red Devils defender added.

Ahly reached the quarters after leading Group D with 10 points, while the South African side finished second in Group A behind leaders Wydad of Morocco.

"The game against Sundowns will be difficult as they are an organised team and they also know well how to play at home, but Ahly arrived in South Africa to achieve a positive result that could help the team to reach the tournament's semis," midfielder Nedved said.

Ahly strengthened their squad in the winter transfer window with the signing of seven new players, including Hussein El-Shahat from Emirati side Al-Ain for a reported fee of $5.5 million.

The Red Devils, the eight-time African champions are looking for their ninth champions league title this time around.

Meanwhile, Sundowns, the 2016 CAF champs, hope to add a second African trophy to their records.

Ahly reached the final in the past two editions but lost to Wydad de Casablanca the first time and Esperance de Tunis the second.

The South African side will meet the Red Devils in the second leg in Suez, Egypt, next week.
