Art Alert: Islamic chanter Ihab Yunis at Arabic Music Institute
Ahram Online, , Friday 10 May 2019
Ihab Yunis has just released two new tracks in time for Ramadan

Islamic chanter Ihab Yunis has a concert at the Arabic Music Institute on 16 May, as part of the culture ministry’s special Ramadan programming.

"I hope you all honour me with your attendance. I will sing much of what you like," the Egyptian musician said in a video on his Facebook page.

Yunis, who is known for his frequent collaborations with Egyptian-German ensemble Cairo Steps, a group founded by Basem Darwisch, will perform traditional Sufi Ibtihal and Mwashah chanting, alongside some of his originals.

Last week he released a song for Ramadan entitled Ramadan Ya Seidna (“Ramadan Our Lord”) in addition to another doaa prayer, produced by prominent accordionist Wael El-Sayed.

Yunis will perform at various venues in Cairo, Alexandria and Port Said in Ramadan.

While the institute is hosting only a few events, the Cairo Opera House is hosting many Islamic chanting performances, like El-Hadra (13 May), Syria's Al-Akhiwa (15 May), Morocco's Jwad Al-Shary (16 May), Aida El-Ayoubi (18 May), Nour El-Nabi (22 May) and Yassin El-Tohamy (25 May).

Programme:
Thursday 16 May, 9:30pm
Arabic Music Institute, Galaa St., Downtown Cairo
