Mena Massoud, Will Smith, and Naomi Scott attended the premiere of the live-action remake of the 1992 classic
The star of Disney’s new live-action Aladdin, Egyptian-Canadian Mena Massoud, said he was delighted to attend the film’s premiere in London on Thursday.
"I am so incredibly blessed to be sharing this experience w/ this amazing group of human beings. London - thank you. You left me #Speechless. #Aladdin" he wrote on Twitter and Instagram while at the star-studded event in Leicester Square.
Written by Oscar-winner Jennifer Lee, who wrote and co-directed Frozen, and directed by Guy Ritchie, the new Aladdin is a remake of the 1992 animated classic.
The cast also includes Naomi Scott in the role of Princess Jasmine and Will Smith as the genie.
Born to Egyptian parents and raised in Canada, Massoud is a relative unknown in Hollywood, having begun his career in Canadian cinema and television.
He was cast in Nikita (2011-2013) where he played a member of Al-Qaeda, Poser; he has had roles in Combat Hospital (2011-), as well as Canadian-American Open Heart (2015).
In 2014, he acted in Canadian short comedy Americanistan where he portrayed a character named Mohammed Ali.
More recently he was cast in leading roles in Canadian films, including short drama Final Exam (2017) and drama mystery Ordinary Days (2017).
He was also cast in Strange But True (Canada) which is yet to premier.
