Titled Cosmic Truths and Tales to be Told, Baraka's latest solo presents a new body of work that expands on her practice

Egyptian painter Nada Baraka will hold her second solo show titled Cosmic Truths and Tales to be Told, at Gypsum Gallery, opening 27 May.

Baraka presents a new collection of works in oil and acrylic on canvas and paper.

In this body of work she pulls references from the farcical aesthetics of 1960s interior design, the absurdity and gory violence of vintage cartoons, and absurdist schools of literature.

"In this series, Baraka creates an experience of a nascent space, with elements that seem to be on the verge of fruition, only to accelerate straight into a state of visual delusion," the exhibition statement reads.

Baraka holds a BA in communication media art and fine art from the American University in Cairo and a Master's degree in fine arts from Central Saint Martins, London.

Her work has been featured in Cairo's Mashrabia Gallery where she held her first solo show in 2015, Gypsum Gallery, Darb 1718, Tache, ArtsMart, the Opera annual Youth Salon and Medrar.

In 2015, she won first prize in Mohamad Abla's painting competition.

Her work has been shown in several group exhibitions in London, Paris and Lisbon, and she has been featured online in Louisiana, USA (Artebella).

The exhibition marks the first to be held at Gypsum's new premises in Maadi, after their move from Garden City.

The exhibtion opens Monday, 27 May at 8pm and will run till 10 July
