Egypt’s Al-Azhar, the world's leading Sunni Islamic institution, condemned on Friday the terrorist attack that targeted a checkpoint on the border region between Niger and Mali, resulting in the death of 28 soldiers.

Al-Azhar said in a statement that the perpetrators of such terrorist attack were "stripped of humanity and do not respect the sanctity of blood," stressing that all divine religions reject the targetting of the innocent.

The statement called for the unification of international efforts to "eliminate terrorism and rid the world of its evils."

Al-Azhar offered deep condolences to the people and government of Niger, wishing peace and stability to the whole world.
