The 13th edition has the theme 'Eyes East Bound' and will feature artists from 50 countries

The Cairo International Biennale will return for its 13th edition in June, after an eight-year hiatus.

Commissaire Ehab El-Laban said one of the focuses of the revived Biennale, which will have the theme “Eyes East Bound,” is to showcase more Egyptian artists than the previous editions.

The event will showcase 80 artists from 50 different countries, with seven established Egyptian artists among them, including Ahmed Badry, Ahmed Kassem, Hazem El-Mistikawy, Reda Abdelrahman, Essam Darwish, Marwa Adel, and Youssef Nabil.

The Biennale is part of the Ministry of Culture's efforts to revive international events that have been discontinued.

It will open on 10 June and events will be at three Cairo venues: the Aisha Fahmy Arts complex, the Palace of Arts, and the Egyptian Modern Art Museum.

The number of awards has been boosted, and alongside the grand prize there will be five additional awards instead of three.
