President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued a decree no 429 of 2018 approving Egypt's accession to the Arab Charter on Human Rights (ACHR) that was adopted by the Council of the Arab League in May 2004.

The decision was approved by the House of Representatives at its session on January 15, 2019.

The charter affirms the principles contained in the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenants on Human Rights and the Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam.

The decree was published in the gazette on Thursday.
