Three days free-entry music festival at MASQ

El-Dor el-Awal, Asia Madani, and Klaxics will star at Maq'ad of Sultan Qaitbey


A three-day music festival will start on Thursday 11 July at Maq'ad of Sultan Qaitbey with oriental jazz group El Dor El Awal opening the performance.

The band will feature some of their most-popular songs, including Raqs El-Hawanem, Rehla, and Hawdag.

Formed in 1999, El-Dor El-Awal (The First Floor) are known for their unique sound that combines the musicians' musical backgrounds with a traditional oriental foundation.

The band is made up of popular percussionists Bob and Mizo, whose beats are rich, especially when combined with the tight electric bass provided by Ahmed Omar and Fady Badr on the qanun and keyboards, Mohammad Samy on violin, Nour Ashour on saxophone and mizmar, and Hisham Issam on the oud.

Their first album, Qarar Izala (Decision to Demolish), was released in 2006, while their second, Aatareeq (On the Road), came out in 2009.

On Friday, Sudanese vocalist and percussionist, Asia Madani will perform some traditional Sudanese folklore as well as music from other parts of Africa.

Madani, who is known internationally for her deep-rooted traditional Sudanese folk repertoire, released her album Al-Zoul in 2018.

On Saturday, the choral group Klaxics will present folklore and pop songs acappella, with human voices as their only instruments.

The festival is free of entry fees charges
