The first feature film by director Ahmed Amer has gained fan and critic appreciation and has been screened at various film festivals across the globe
Egyptian feature film Balash Tebosni (Kiss Me Not) will be screened at Darb1718 on Sunday 14 July.
The 85-minute directorial debut of Ahmed Amer tracks the rise and fall of the on-screen kiss in Egyptian cinema in a comedy that blurs the line between documentary and fiction through the story of actress Fajr.
Amer started his filmmaking career as an assistant editor – and sometime actor – in the US before becoming an Arabic script consultant for 'Looking for Umm Kulthum' by director Shirin Nashat. His writing credits include the award-winning films Winter of Discontent (2012) by Ibrahim El-Batout, and Ali, The Goat and Ibrahim (2016) by Sherif El-Bendary.
The film stars Yasmine Raees, Mohamed Mehran, Salwa Mohamed Ali and Aida Riad, with Sawsan Badr as a guest of honour, as well as renowned directors Mohamed Khan and Khairi Bishara, who appear as themselves in the film.
With its premier held in Dubai, Kiss Me Not has garnered fan and critic appreciation and was screened at various film festivals across the globe, including the Arab Film Festival in Paris and the Shanghai International Film Festival. The film also received special mention at the first session of the Jounieh International Film Festival.
